Questions to Ask at a Consultation

Good surgeons welcome these questions. Evasive answers are themselves an answer.

Training and certification

  • Which board certifies you, and may I verify it? What did that certification examine?
  • Where did you train specifically in facial cosmetic surgery, and for how long?
  • How many of this exact procedure have you performed in the last year?

Safety

  • Where will surgery be performed, and is the facility accredited?
  • Who administers anesthesia, and what are their qualifications?
  • What complications have you seen with this procedure, and how were they handled?
  • If I have a problem at 2 a.m., who do I call?

Results

  • May I see before-and-after photos of patients with anatomy like mine — including your average results, not only your best?
  • What would you not do for me, and why?
  • What is your revision policy?
