About the Board

Code of Ethics

Certification is conditional on conduct. Diplomates commit to a code of ethics the Board enforces.

Diplomates are obligated to

  • Represent their training, certification, and results truthfully in all advertising.
  • Operate within their examined scope and refer beyond it.
  • Use accredited facilities and qualified anesthesia providers.
  • Obtain informed consent that honestly presents risks and alternatives, including the alternative of no treatment.
  • Cooperate with Board review of ethics concerns.

Raising a concern

Anyone may raise a concern about a diplomate's conduct with the Board. Concerns are reviewed confidentially; outcomes can include remediation, suspension, or revocation of certification, which is then reflected in the public verification record.
