About the Board

Mission

The Board exists to protect the public by examining, certifying, and holding accountable surgeons practicing facial cosmetic surgery.

Cosmetic surgery of the face, head, and neck is a distinct discipline. It is not covered by any single residency pathway, and no government body verifies that a surgeon advertising it is trained in it. The American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery fills that gap: it sets standards for training and experience, examines candidates against them, and certifies only those who meet them.

Certification is not a membership and it is not marketing. It is a verifiable public record, maintained through recertification requirements and enforced through a code of ethics under which certification can be suspended or revoked.
